Animal Transport Resources

Pilots to the Rescue

APA! Transport Program - Austin. This program has helped save thousands of lives by providing the resources, vet time, health certificates, vaccinations, and transport coordination required to move shelter pets out of Texas. Some pets travel to their new homes by plane and others in one of their transport vans. The program is supported by rescue partners, volunteers, and donors.

Dog Is My Copilot - Jackson, WY. They transport animals from overcrowded shelters to adoption centers where loving families are waiting to adopt a new pet. Visit them on Facebook. 307-359-5452

Flying Shepherd Ranch - Supports local and out-of-state rescues through flight transport, vet care assistance, rehabilitation and advocacy. This nonprofit organization assists Colorado dog and cat rescues, shelter volunteers and independent rescuers in saving dogs and cats facing euthanasia in out-of-state high kill shelters. They pick up dogs, predominantly—on occasion a few cats—to fly them from Texas, New Mexico and Arkansas to Colorado rescues or adopters.  Visit them on Facebook!

Highway Hounds Rescue & Transport

Highway Hounds Rescue & Transport - Fort Worth. Foster, Rescue, Adoption, and Transport. This group seems to also provide services for cats, but it primarily supports the listed needs for dogs.

Houston Petset - Houston. This group facilitates twice-monthly transports of animals to rescue partners in the Midwest. Since Hurricane Harvey, Houston PetSet has transported thousands of pets to their forever homes.

Operation Kindness Interstate Animal Transport Program - Carrollton. This Interstate Animal Transport Program, launched in July 2022, aims to decrease the euthanasia of dogs and cats across Texas and the southern states by safely transporting animals from southern U.S. source shelters to northern U.S. destination shelters and rescues, where there is a greater demand for animals, via ground and air transport.

Paws Up Rescue Transport. LLC - This is a transport service that drives rescue animals from high-kill shelters in Texas to the PNW and the Northeast.

Pilots To The Rescue - Based in Brooklyn, NY. The mission of this group is to prevent at-risk animals from being euthanized by transporting them via air and ground transportation to give them the best chance at adoption. Volunteer pilots fly animals from critical situations to safety, ultimately saving lives. In the case of an animal rescue emergency, call 212.404.6936.

RESCUE RIDERS PET TRANSPORT, LLC - Based in Tennessee. They do transport both cats and dogs but unsure if their route ever includes Texas. 424-617-8288

Rescued Pets Movement Inc. - Greater Houston area. This 501(c)(3) organization provides a second chance for thousands of homeless dogs and cats through rehabilitation and transport to forever homes in communities throughout the United States and Canada that have a demand for adoptable pets. The dogs and cats saved from BARC (Houston’s City Pound) and other area shelters are fully examined and treated by their partner veterinarians. They are then placed temporarily in foster homes with their volunteers until they are ready for transport to their new homes.

San Antonio Pets Alive (SAPA) “Headin’ Home” Program - San Antonio. Through their Paws Beyond Texas program, they transports puppies, dogs, kittens, and cats to trusted rescue partners in other states where adoptable pets are in high demand. These lifesaving journeys happen by van and by plane. The program partners with transport services, like Dog is My CoPilot, to get the dogs to their new destinations.

Save Them All Pet Transport - Specialized Care and Transport of Vulnerable Rescue Dogs and Cats. They specialize ONLY in large, chartered rescue transports (25-40) of rescued shelter dogs and cats. They are USDA registered transports and carry transit certifications for Connecticut and Rhode Island. Their primary area of operation is the central and eastern time zones and they sub-contract with several USDA REGISTERED vessels located in the central time zone that travel to Pacific time zones and ground transport to eastern Canadian provinces surrounding New England states. I did not see anything indicating they provide services in Texas.

SWATT (Southwest Animal Transport Team)

SWATT (Southwest Animal Transport Team) - SWATT is a 501(c)(3) 100% volunteer-driven, service-based independent organization and is a team of Southwest Airlines employees, dependents, retirees and dedicated volunteers who donate their time and nonrev flight benefits to transport rescued pets. We support nonprofit organizations in their efforts to protect and advocate for animals in need. For more information, email: swattransports@gmail.com.

Texas Animal Fosters and Transporters (FB page). This group finds foster homes & transporters for animals in Texas and volunteers to be a foster home or driver. It is not a group for posting shelter or stray animals if there isn't already a rescue backing. This isn't a group for fundraising either. This also isn't a group for breeders or people looking to re-home their pets.

Texas Cat Coalition - Corpus Christi. This is a small foster-based rescue that is dedicated to saving special needs and critically sick or injured cats. They sometimes partner with others to transport adoptable cats out of Texas. Visit their Facebook page. Click here to email them.

The groups below ONLY provide transport of dogs:

God’s Dogs Rescue - Dogs only. They have transported over 12,000 of their own rescued dogs and pups as well as those from other rescues. They have four Ford E350 vans and are able to transport 30-35 dogs and puppies weekly all over the country.
